This is an Exercise Class especially designed for physically and mentally challenged people
and their carers and friends.
This initiative has been inspired by classes set up in Sweden by Friskis&Svettis
So how does an Open Doors class work?
|

|
An able-bodied Leader and a Shadow leader, who is confined to a wheelchair, work together as a
team on a specially designed programme. This involves people with a wide range of disabilities
and their carers, relatives, friends and anyone who is interested in joining in! They exercise together
in an environment where the emphasis is on enjoyment and feeling good through moving.
What sort of exercises are involved?
Fitness, strength, stability and balance are all trained within the participants own limitations.
Who are the Classes for?
The people in the group may have a wide range of physical and mental handicaps. Some are in
wheelchairs for various reasons, others have had strokes or amputations and have become 'experts' in
their own disability. Everyone is welcome.
Who leads the Class?
Classes are lead by a fully qualified Johanna Ogg, herself in a wheelchair, in partnership
with an able bodied assistant. Between them they will demonstrate exercises suitable for all abilities.
When and Where are the Classes?
The Open Doors class are at:
Carronhill School , Stonehaven , Mondays at 7pm
Margaret Blackwell Housing Association, Aberdeen, Thursdays at 1.45pm
Spread the word to as many people and
organisations as possible!
